ABSTRACT
The use of bamboo
as a material for building components has been done either in ̓the form of
whole bamboo (cane) or bamboo laminate.
Advantages and
disadvantages of bamboo raw materials in the form of cane or pounded bamboos
are used, affecting a design of construction and in the field application
especially for shaped frame constructions. Laminated bamboo products such as
solid beams or boards, normally use bamboo slices or pounded bamboos, where the
process of making this raw materials can be done manually or by machine. The
form and diameter of bamboo is not uniform and this is ones of the obstacle in
the process of bamboo laminate productions because required a certain length or
more than 4 m.
The experiment of
use bamboo slices as a component construction with length more than 4 m has
been corried out in the framework of the parabolic construsction (half round
shape). 4 layers of Bamboo slices arranged or stacked made curved in accordance
with building design and spans planed. In this experiment, gluing and pressing
and smooting not performed but the bamboo slices made and arranged with
adjustable sizes with spans planned. The bonding strength of both slices used bamboo
jigs and wood glue adhesive (not a metal such as screws or nails). Design plan
of building in an oval form with diameter 9 m short span and 10 m for long span
and also ceilling 5 m high. The roof tile covered using bamboo pounded.
Engineering preservation is done by immersiion in the river flowing for 3
months and then dried to untill moustiture content is below 15%. Ideally the
use of raw materials as well as the strength of the beam be tested before
implemented but hopely this experiment will be contributes to the alternative
of bamboo construction for the future where the profit is promising because
easy, stiff, fast implementation, cheap and will be applied for large span
construction. The experimental results is expected to provide solutions to optimmize
the bamboo as a frame construction.
